Rated the best hike on Sao Miguel Island.

Today’s circular trail was 5.6 miles and excessively muddy.  Our destination was Janela do Inferno(window to Hell), a cavity made by water erosion.  There and back we ventured through four tunnels, used as aqueducts in years past.

Total climb was 1,315 feet.  We managed wet, slippery stairs and boot sucking mud.  I’m not sure which was worse, the climbing, or descending.
