Lakeside Adventures

Today’s venture was Sete Cidades located in the center of a volcanic crater and the views from above of the Lagoa Azul (Blue Lake) and Lagoa Verde (Green Lake).

The best image for last…

Our GPS originally took us on a heavily rutted, washed out dirt road.

“I don’t know about this,” I said.

A few horrific bumps later, “Larry, we need to turn around.  I don’t think tour busses come this way.”

Why wasn’t he listening?

I’ll tell you why, Larry has tinnitus in his right ear.  He couldn’t hear me and I forgot.

Our car rental insurance covers everything except the rims and tires.  Reminiscent of our trip to Argentina, the car insurance there covered everything except roll-overs.  It wasn’t until we were driving across that country on an elevated single lane highway with ox carts, tour busses, cars and semis, all with different speed limits and roll-overs on the side, did we ‘get it.’

About a quarter mile, we HAD to turn around.  I hopped out to assist.  A three-point turn was actually about six tries.  In the process, Larry had three wheels on the ground and the fourth wheel, oh gosh, it was twice as high as this photo below. I was so panicked that our car was going to flip, I grabbed inside the window frame and with all my weight, pushed down and forward.  Larry inched forward and stopped when the front was pinned in a huge washout.  Back in reverse and a tiny bit of wheel turn, the right rear tire slowly eased its way toward the ground.

“Stop,” I said, “ I want to take a picture, you’re never going to believe this.”

Larry didn’t realized the car was airborne.

“At least the tire and rim are safe,” he said.

We laughed and laughed all day, even writing this now.

P.S. that dent in the photo was from a previous renter and we have photos to prove it.
