The Tale of Two Trucks
Two Trucks, one that didn’t show and one that won’t tow.
Big White, our newly purchased F-150 continues to sit on the dealership’s lot. The 2021 redesigned B&W Turnover Gooseneck Hitch is somewhere between the manufacturer and the distribution center, “It could be a day, a week or months,” an installation person told Larry. Plan A isn’t looking so good.
Plan B, “Let’s use the old truck,” he said. We packed Charlie, the tuna and got everything in order for an early Saturday morning departure. Fingers crossed I get the hang of backing up our 2007 forest green F-150 short bed without taking out the window. We’ve never named the green truck, why jinx it?
That must have been our first mistake. Old Green decided she wasn’t having anything to do with Larry’s bike ride across the country. She started slipping, on her way to the gas station for a fill Friday afternoon. Larry researched online and tinkered under the hood. She’d had a complete transmission overhaul nine years ago, surely this was a fluke. A quick test drive, at first she was fine and then she slipped, again. The car savvy neighbor said it was probably a solenoid going bad.
Larry’s planned bike ride leaves Anacortes, Washington on Tuesday, June 1st. That’s a good two weeks away…what I failed to mention was I pimped Larry(LY) out to help my eldest son Samir with some home repairs; a week in Eugene, Oregon preceding the epic bike ride.
I texted Samir, “We are packed & ready, but the truck is acting up. LY is off trying to find a repair shop.”
“Haha oh lordy. That truck didn’t give two shits about your timeline,” he replied.
On a conference call, my son made fun of the fact that maybe ‘the universe’ was trying to tell us something, since two trucks couldn’t make the trip.
Early Monday morning, Larry has an appointment with a local transmission shop for an assessment.
We have Plan C, Larry will fly to Eugene to help Samir next week. Then he will fly back, and we’ll drive directly to Anacortes, a truck willing.
And there’s Plan D, I drive the whole getup solo to Eugene and retrieve Larry.
Or Plan E, I blow on some dandelions and make a wish or two.
