Wedding and a Funeral
21.5 miles! The Longest Day so far. And I’m feeling it in every inch of my poor body.
We walked up and over some hills on cobble stone roads through little coastal towns, where we came upon a funeral (where I skipped a bathroom break at the church) followed by a wedding the next town over.
Available bathrooms are few and far between, so much so, I skip hydrating-aka drinking water. Not the smartest move, but been necessary.
We met up with an Aussie named Jeni early on and walked most the day together. She and I had so much in common, it was actually refreshing and scary, at the same time.
Though we spoke about non-judgement, we found the E-bike pilgrims a bit too much. They are two steps below the pilgrims that ship their backpacks/bags ahead to a hotel. Seems there’s a stepping order to the pilgrimage.
After lunch, our second ever ‘pilgrim meal’ (discounted) we found ourselves parallel to the coast leaning against gale force winds. My sinuses kicked into high gear, they always do in brisk winds.
We had secured a room for the night previously, but Jeni hadn’t and was not having much luck. Saint Larry stopped at a hostel to use the bathroom at the same time that hostel received a cancellation, thus an opening for Jeni.
Apples one day and hostel rooms the next! My Saint is currently out looking for throat lozenges. What started as wind induced sinus pain has become a sore throat. Dang it.
