New York City next

On the smallest runway, I swear, the plane backed up onto the overrun/blast area to run up the engines, release the brakes and become airborne before the pavement ended into the ocean.

Up, up, and turning toward the mountains  we entered the clouds.  Next island, Terceira, fingers crossed.

Still thinking about that plane crash (into the same mountain we’re aimed at) memorial we saw yesterday, Larry said “studies show the people in the back live longer.”

I laugh.  I laugh again writing this.

As we leave the Azores; Tourist season begins tomorrow, June 1st.  Scheduled flights double, scheduled ferry routes triple, and all costs quadruple.

Next stop, New York City, the polar opposite of the Azores.

Terceira. A stretch of road we navigated outside the airport for a lunch bite. That’s Larry ahead dragging his suitcase.

Did I mention that old Samsonite suitcase began shedding outer parts of its wheel?
